How I became a Marine MEchanic

My journey to becoming a marine mechanic started like so many do: holding the flashlight or passing the wrench to my father in his garage. He was a lifelong lobster fisherman and marine mechanic, and my summers were spent catching lobsters and helping him work on engines. After high school, I knew I wanted to work in the trades. I began with a welding apprenticeship, taking the skills I had learned from my father over the years.

But I wanted to do more than just welding. I wanted a profession that combined my engineering mindset, business acumen, and my love for working with my hands. After a few years of my welding apprenticeship I decided to follow in my father’s footsteps. I joined him at his company, completing the education I already had with his help and years of experience. After several years of working under him he decided to retire, and I started a business of my own: Marine Diesel Works. Today I have helped lots of clients to rebuild, repair, and restore the engines of their marine vessels.
